About UK Councils

UK Councils has one page for each local authority, answering the questions people ask about it from official published tables. Today it covers council tax for the 296 councils in England that bill it. School term dates, election results, contracts and spending join as their data is added, and councils in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland follow.

The rules the site keeps

• Every figure comes from an official table, and its source and date are printed directly under it.
• A figure the source does not hold is not shown. A missing figure means a missing section, never a zero or an estimate.
• Councils are compared only where every council has the same complete official year, as in the MHCLG council tax tables, and only within the same class of council.
• No person is named anywhere on the site.
• The site states what a table says and the rule that applies. It says nothing about why a council did what it did.
